Butcher's Broom NSP
Supports cardiovascular health and the body as a whole.
→Butcher’s Broom translates literally as “butcher’s broom”. This healing plant has a history of more than 2,000 years. With modern technology, Nature’s Sunshine Products offers convenient capsules with root extract. The supplement is used to support the cardiovascular system.
Beneficial properties of Butcher’s Broom
Pliny and Theophrastus described the useful properties of butcher’s broom (Ruscus aculeatus) in their treatises. They noted its effect in varicose veins, swelling and strengthening of the whole circulatory system.
In medieval Europe the plant gained its second name. Butchers cleaned blood from boards with it — hence “butcher’s broom”. Noticing that the plant seemed to clear blood, people began to eat it. In the body it had a similar effect — helping clear toxins and surplus substances from the bloodstream.
Modern medical literature first describes butcher’s broom in 1910. In Europe (France, Germany, Italy) it was used to regulate circulation and to help fractures knit.
The capsules help to:
- Strengthen vessel walls;
- Support blood cleansing;
- Regulate circulation;
- Act on various nodes (for example in haemorrhoids);
- Strengthen tendons.
Butcher’s broom keeps organs in tone through good blood supply.
Composition of Butcher’s Broom
One capsule of Butcher’s Broom contains 400 mg of butcher’s broom (root extract). The bottle holds 100 capsules. Butcher’s broom owes its healing properties to flavonoids. The main ones in the plant:
1. Rutin. Strengthens capillary walls and lowers their permeability. An important antioxidant — it not only neutralises free radicals but helps prevent their formation. Rutin helps suppress thrombus formation and improves circulation, so it is used in approaches to heart attack and stroke. It matters for people with diabetes: it supports glucose breakdown, helps eye vessels and helps protect vision. Rutin eases swelling around fractures. It is effective in chronic venous insufficiency, with minimal side effects.
2. Saponins. Bioactive substances widely used in pharmaceuticals. They have immunomodulating, mild laxative and cleansing actions. Saponins help in allergies by clearing toxins. They reduce capillary fragility and raise elasticity. Additional effects include vessel constriction that eases swelling, and anti-inflammatory action — so saponins help wound healing.
Butcher’s broom root also contains beta-carotene, B vitamins, ascorbic acid and vitamin PP. Valuable minerals and trace elements: calcium, chromium, magnesium, manganese, selenium, tin and zinc.
Water and gelatin are also included in the NSP supplement. This form dissolves in the stomach faster than tablets.
